Concrete Geometries

Spatial Form in Social and

Aesthetic Processes

The ‘Concrete Geometries’ Research Cluster at the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London collates work from the fields of art, architecture, sciences and humanities that explore the relationship between spatial form and social or aesthetic processes.

The Call for Submissions launched by the ‘Concrete Geometries Research Cluster’ in January 2010 produced a tremendous response. The Cluster received 415 submissions from all over the world and many different disciplines participated. There were 323 image-based works, many of which were realised projects but also included proposals, as well as 92 texts most of which were full manuscripts. The standard of submissions was generally very high.

Because of this overwhelming response the Cluster has decided to take more time to evaluate the submissions and select work. The new date for announcing the selected participants has therefore been moved to the 25th of May 2010.

Because of the high quality, the Cluster also felt that the framework in which the work will be showcased should be adapted.

In order to give more time to the selection process and the exhibition format in which the work will be shown, it has been decided that the exhibition at the AA Back Member’s Room from 14. – 28.5. will only be a preview focusing on giving an overview of the wealth and amount of submissions.

This will be followed by a more ambitious exhibition towards the end of the year, allowing for appropriate time for the development of some of the proposals. This exhibition will focus on a selection of work and coincide with the book launch of the project. It will be developed in conversation with the selected participants.

The symposium will remain as planned, taking place on 15th October 2010 at the AA Lecture Hall.

Here an overview of the update time table:

Preview Exhibition: 14th – 28th of May
